The House of Gucci was established by Guccio Gucci in 1921. Inspired by the elegant luggage he saw wealthy travelers carrying while working at the Savoy Hotel in London, Gucci returned to Florence with the aim of merging the refined style of these travelers with the exquisite craftsmanship of traditional Florentine artisans.
Gucci's high-quality leather goods, often with equestrian themes, quickly became sought after. During World War II, when leather was scarce, Gucci's innovative use of materials like hemp, linen, and jute helped to diversify the brand's aesthetic. After Guccio Gucci's passing in 1953, his sons and grandson successfully expanded the company into a globally recognized luxury goods manufacturer. The iconic "double G" logo was introduced in the 1960s.
Gucci launched its first fragrance, Gucci No. 1 for women, in 1974. Since then, the brand has released a series of notable fragrances for both men and women, including classics like Gucci 3 and L'Arte di Gucci, which have become legendary among perfume collectors. Tom Ford served as the creative director from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, followed by Frida Giannini. Since 2015, Alessandro Michele has been the creative director, continuing to shape the brand's legacy.
